Dirk Poelaert

Dr. Dirk Poelaert joined Novavax in January 2023 as the Head of Medical Affairs for the Europe region with responsibility of leading the European medical team and engaging with stakeholders and public health authorities. Dr. Poelaert brings to Novavax more than 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry with the vast majority in medical affairs, clinical research, regulatory and pharmacovigilance.

Prior to joining Novavax, Dr. Poelaert spent 17 years in global and regional roles with GSK Vaccines. He was the medical global lead for GSK’s pandemic and seasonal influenza vaccines during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic and moved later to the European medical affairs team to deliver strategic medical solutions ultimately effecting patients access to pediatric and adult vaccines. Dr. Poelaert earned his medical degree from the University of Leuven.
